LAHORE (Dunya News) – Pakistan Ulema Council Chairman Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi has said that maintaining unity, religious harmony, and peace during Muharram-ul-Haram is a collective responsibility of all stakeholders.

Addressing an inter-sectarian seminar in Lahore, he urged citizens to immediately report any suspicious activity to relevant authorities to ensure law and order during the holy month.

Ashrafi said Pakistan has played a constructive role in reducing regional tensions and promoting peace, adding that the Islamabad Declaration is contributing positively to global peace efforts.

He stressed that national peace committees, federal and provincial governments, and the public must remain vigilant to ensure a peaceful observance of Muharram.

The cleric alleged that hostile elements, including India and Israel, are allegedly using social media campaigns and funding efforts to spread unrest during Muharram, urging people to avoid sharing provocative or misleading content.

He called for adherence to the principle of “follow your sect, do not interfere with others,” emphasizing tolerance, restraint, and mutual respect among all schools of thought.

Highlighting the situation in Gaza, he expressed concern over the lack of basic necessities such as clean water, milk, and food for civilians.

He also reiterated that violence in the name of religion has no place in Islam, and described true jihad as defined by Islamic teachings and historical precedent.

On Kashmir, he said the issue must be addressed in line with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people, noting growing international attention on the dispute.
